According to the U.S National Library of Medicine/ National Institute Health, “Cri-du-chat, otherwise known as Cat's Cry Syndrome, is a chromosomal condition that results when a piece of chromosome 5 is missing” (“Cri du chat Syndrome”). Infants with this condition often have a high-pitched cry that sounds like that of a cat, hence the name, “Cats Cry.” Another symptom associated with Cri-du-chat is eye folds, a high-pitched voice, and early and severe mental retardation ("Cri du chat syndrome"). The disorder is characterized by intellectual disability and delayed development in infancy ("Cri du chat syndrome").
